Maybe this is supposed to be good thing number three–I don’t know that it’s on the same level as the first two, but it is good nonetheless.A few months ago, my camera died. Trusty soul that he was, what eventually did him in was a shearing off of the zoom button, which was coincidentally tied to the picture taking button. I think that’s the technical term there. Anyway, what it means is that when turning the camera on, it instantly zoomed in as far as it would go and would be unable to take pictures. Not much use.
I’d been debating about replacing it with the same camera or upgrading to a DSLR. I knew that I had to get a new camera before I went back to Europe–and really, I’d like to have on here in Boston to capture of of the summer. If I replaced it straight up, the problem would be that it ain’t a great camera to begin with, and spending another $150 seemed criminal. DSLRs, however, start around $500 new, or less for used ones, but it’s hard to verify the quality of the used ones.
Enter option number three. A friend of mine from a message board (who I never met and lives in Copenhagen just upgraded from the 350D to the 40D. Hell of an upgrade. But, he’s coming to the US in a month and has no need for his old 350D. Thus, I get a camera for a low price from someone that I trust treated it well. Score. I guess maybe this is an adequate number 3.
Expect more terrible, pretentious photographs in a month’s time, as I set about trying to learn how to use it.
